Hello friend.
Mr. Robot won the Golden Globe award for best drama series.
Christian Slater, won for best supporting actor in a drama series
Let’s look ahead to season two.
“The show’s look is so singular,” explains show runner Sam Esmail during the TCA panel, about directing all ten episodes of Mr. Robot season two. Jaw drop. Those first seamless ten episodes were directed by multiple people, including Esmail. The “singular” look allowed viewers to get lost in Elliott’s maze and built both a realistic and fanciful universe. I am especially happy about this news, considering Esmail directed episodes two, five, and ten. These are not necessarily my favorites, but I do praise the direction in these chapters above all else. I wonder how much time goes into story boarding those superb opening credit sequences? Somebody needs to put a camera in their writer’s room and release the footage as a special feature on the Blu-ray.
“This series is filling in the blanks of this character, the past, the present, and the future,” describes Esmail in relation to the clarity he hopes season two will bring viewers. So, does that mean we’ll find out about the incident that leads Elliott to Krista’s office in the first place? Also, remember back in episode eight, Darlene’s reaction to Elliott’s kiss, “Did you forget, again?” emphasis on the “again.” The line insinuates that this isn’t the first time Elliott erased himself from society, so I wonder if when the series continues, will Esmail reveal an endless cycle of memory loss and revelation? This season will help clarify the sibling relationship between Elliott and Darlene (Carly Chaikin). I suspect they’re half siblings and that’s why she’s not part of Elliott’s family reunion hallucination at Times Square in episode ten. “This series is filling in the blanks of this character, the past, the present, and the future,” adds Esmail. Well, that sounds good, considering the numerous questions lingering from season one.
During the TCA panel, Esmail also indicated Whiterose (BD Wong) will play a part in season two, but this will not turn into the Dark Army versus E Corp, “The whole show is about Elliott’s emotional journey and less about the plot.” Therefore, our hero may find himself battling against his childhood crush, Angela (Portia Doubleday). In the season finale, Angela found herself both in awe and fearful of Phillip Price (Michael Cristofer) after fsociety’s attack. While Angela deals with morality, viewers will stay privy to Elliott’s escalating paranoia, as a man who’s become aware of his mental disorder. If you can’t trust yourself, then how do you believe in anything . . . or anyone? Remember, Tyrell Wellick (Martin Wallstrom) trusted Elliott, only for him to be missing throughout the entire season finale. No, there’s no mention in either the Deadline, or Business Insider articles about the Mr. Robot TCA panel, that even mentions my favorite villain. The only reprieve the series has if season two reveals Elliott killed Tyrell, is that his wife, Joanna Wellick (Stephanie Corneliussen) is alive and well. I don’t believe it’s too much to ask for Esmail to include information about the bizarre scene between Elliott and Joanna, that took place during the season finale. I’m not crazy, those two definitely met before . . . right? Remember, season two is meant to provide us with “clarity,” I just hope the series retains that which kept my interest throughout season one.
