I love Fallout. I played Fallout 3 for hours and it’s DLC was some of the best in the business. I did the same with New Vegas although the DLC wasn’t quiet as excellent as in Fallout 3. Today Bethesda has announced details about upcoming DLC for Fallout 4.
The first set of DLC will be called Automatron launching in March for $9.99
The mysterious Mechanist has unleashed a horde of evil robots into the Commonwealth, including the devious Robobrain. Hunt them down and harvest their parts to build and mod your own custom robot companions. Choose from hundreds of mods; mixing limbs, armor, abilities, and weapons like the all-new lightning chain gun. Even customize their paint schemes and choose their voices!
What I liked about previous Fallout DLC was the new maps and areas that were added. This first title doesn’t seem to do this. Although the prospect of hunting the wastes for stuff to kill sounds fun, I’ve kind of already done this. Currently I have 80 hours logged on Fallout 4, and have not completed it yet. The first 60 hours of my game time I didn’t even venture into Diamond City which is one of the first major stops in the games story line. I feel I’ve ventured much of the waste and killed lots of things. DLC that adds more stuff to kill and more venturing doesn’t necessarily excite me. Also I never play with companions, making my desire for a robotic one lacking.
Next on the docket is Wasteland Workshop for $4.99 in April. This piece will allow players to capture and tame creatures and hints at the ability to have them battle each other. Essentially, wasteland Pokemon. The add-on will also expand aspects of settlement development. As a PC gamer, I’m pretty luke-warm about this DLC. There are plenty of free mods that enhance settlement building. Taming a Deathclaw would be cool, but I’m sure if I looked around on Fallout Nexus I could find a mod that would do something similar for free.
The final announcement is Far Harbor coming in May for $24.99. This adventure will take the player to a new island off of Maine to battle it out with returning faction The Children of the Atom and various other Fallout 4 baddies. According to Bethesda, Far Harbor, features the largest landmass for any add-on they have created. Although big world doesn’t equal fun world, I’m excited for this one. My favorite DLC for Fallout was Point Lookout, which took place in a swamp. This looks like it could have a similar feel to it. With everything presented thus far, this is the DLC that I will have my eye on. Looks like it’s time to boot up Fallout 4 and beat it!
Bethesda has stated they have more DLC planned, but aren’t ready to announce at this time. This could be why they are raising the price for the season pass on March 1st from $29.99 to $49.99. With that price increase hopefully more world expanding DLC like Far Harbor is on the horizon.
