I’m anticipating the reboot of Doom quite eagerly. When I think of Doom I think of its fast violent combat which naturally fits well into the multiplayer format. Id Software has an impressive lineage in the multiplayer history essentially creating the twitch arena shooter. Doom looks to be no exception of this.
If you watched the trailer above you’ve seen that Doom with launch with 9 multiplayer maps to gib your friends and enemies in. Here is the breakdown of each map.
Excavation: A modest-sized UAC mining outpost. Watch out for the rock grinder!
Infernal: A mid-sized Hell map with both interior and exterior elements. Lots of platforms and chasms, along with teleporters.
Chasm: This massive map takes you deep below the polar ice caps of Mars. A great place to play Freeze Tag.
Disposal: This smaller map is the main waste processing facility for the UAC research and residential complexes. Unsurprisingly, it’s full of radioactive slime.
Helix: This is where they experiment on demons and develop advanced weaponry. Which, naturally, makes it perfect for a quick round of Clan Arena.
Perdition: Disjointed and sadistic, this ancient arena is populated by the agonized moans of unfortunate souls who have suffered within its realm.
Sacrilegious: Set within a fracture of Hell, this map offers clear lines of sight. Move fast… or die faster.
Heatwave: An industrial UAC facility with glistening halls that will soon be slicked with human (and demon) blood.
Beneath: Before being beamed to Earth, the energies of Hell are harnessed in this symmetrical and cavernous location.
In addition to map announcements, game modes have recently been detailed as well!
Soul Harvest– Kill enemies to harvest their souls or basically kill confirmed of COD fame.
Freeze Tag– This is a brilliant mode in which shooting enemies will freeze them. Team allies will have to run around the map unfreezing their team mates. Why has no one thought of this before?
Warpath- Think King of the Hill but the hill is constantly moving
Clan Arena– Team death match in its purest form, meaning there are no special pickups on the map.
Domination– Read team King of the Hill
Team Deathmatch– Do I really need to explain this one….you can turn into a demon if you fancy.
I’m sure as we get closer to May 13th we’ll get more grisly details about Doom, but for now this will have to sate your bloodlust.
