Over the weekend, Wizard World Austin Comic ConĀ hosted another successful year in downtown Austin. This is the 7th year for the convention.
Some of the celebs that made appearances over the weekend included Olympic Gold Medalist Gabby Douglas, William Shatner (Star Trek), Danny Trejo (Machete), Sebastian Stan (Captain America: Civil War), Bruce Campbell (Ash Vs Evil Dead) and Matt Smith (Doctor Who).
For the gamers, there were several tournaments going on, including a rather large Tekken tournament and one for one of the best games of the year, Overwatch.
There were so many amazing panels over the weekend, unfortunately we couldn’t make every one.
During Sebastian Stan’s panel, he shared love for the Netflix series Stranger Things and his appreciation for military personnel. He briefly mentioned his future in the MCU and whether he would be in the Black Panther film, but he was unable to disclose. I would have loved to hear his thoughts on the recent announcement that Doctor Strange would have a role in Infinity War. He was asked, by a cosplayer dressed Bucky Barnes, what his thoughts were on going back into the cryo tube?
Sebastian paused for a minute, and said “Well… It’s just the way it was written in the script. Haha. I was like really?” He went on, “No, It really seems to be the best option for him to be honest. Its the truth. Something needs to change, he is finally going to get the attention he needs. He will finally be able to process through his experiences and he is in safe hands so-to-speak. Those hands might have claws but yeah, it’s the only option for him at this point.”
Danny Trejo, who had actually one of the funnier panels of the convention, discussed Machete, getting yelled at by his mom at a premiere and how to star in a Robert Rodriguez film.
One of the funnier moments happened when he decided to reach for his phone and call Rodriguez to ask, “What’s up with Machete 3?”.
Matt Smith, the 11th Doctor treated fans to a pleasant Q&A where he discussed his favorite companions, behind the scene moments and whether he would come back to the series.
The cosplayers were well represented throughout the main floor. Wizard World hosted an Adult and a Childrens Cosplay Contest.
Geekster Ink was on-site giving fans tattoos live of characters from John Snow to Poison Ivy. I didn’t go for it this time, but there’s always next year.
Other celebs in attendence included Judge Reinhold (Fast Times at Ridgemont High), Becky Lynch (WWE), Big Show (WWE), and Sam Jones (Ted/ Flash Gordon)
