Some recent comic book covers have come under scrutiny for seemingly sexualizing the appearance of the female characters on the cover. This critique is not necessarily a new phenomenon in the comic book world, but it has led Marvel comics to pull the J. Scott Campbell variant cover for Invincible Iron Man #1 due to complaints that the artwork “sexualizes” a 15 year old girl. Campbell has stated that it wasn’t his intention.
