The film, co-written (with Alex Theurer) and directed by J.D. Dillard tells the story of Bo, a young man who has to raise his younger sister alone after the death of his parents. A talented street magician with no opportunities, he’s forced to turn to activities that are beyond the law in order to keep a roof over their heads. The film stars Jacob Latimore (The Maze Runner), Seychelle Gabriel (Falling Skies), Sasheer Zamata (Saturday Night Live) and Dule Hill (Psych).

In addition to the theatrical release of the film, Oni Press (Invader Zim, Scott Pilgrim) is releasing a tie-in comic prequel written by Ryan Parrott (Batman: Gates of Gotham) and drawn by Eisner Award winning artist Rob Guillory (The Walking Dead). The comic will be available for a limited free digital download on March 30, 2017.

According to writer Ryan Parrott, “The film is a fantastic achievement and an evolution of a genre I love, so I was honored when I was asked to contribute.” He said. Considering its many influences, it just made sense to bring this story into the medium of comics,” said Parrott.  “With Rob’s incredible artwork, the goal was to provide a glimpse of what’s to come in the film while expanding the characters and the scope of the world. It was an amazing collaboration that I hope fans of the film will enjoy.”

Artist Rob Guillory had this to say about the project. “SLEIGHT is a film dripping with visual style and heart-gripping characterization, so I felt that our job was to honor what JD Dillard created with this comic prequel. In a lot of ways, writer Ryan Parrot and I bring our own unique vision to the story, but our goal was to capture the spirit of SLEIGHT and do it justice. I think we did just that.”
