When Guardians of the Galaxy originally came out in 2014, it took the world by storm. No one expected people to connect to this unknown group of ragtag heroes the way they did. They were charming and funny and even heroic when the time called for it. Well, they are back in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, where we get to delve into Peter Quill’s (AKA the legendary outlaw Star-Lord) past and hopefully save the galaxy for a second time. This movie is just as much fun as the first Guardians of the Galaxy and helps to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe even more.
I really didn’t think you could have more fun than this movie, but apparently, you can! Because the special features of the Blu-ray are out of this world.
Making of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
The amount of passion involved in the GotG movies is obvious. In the Making of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, you get to see that passion play out, as James Gunn explains his vision for the Guardians. James has so much love and appreciation for the characters and the actors playing them, and that really comes across in this featurette. In the feature, they also discuss another important part of the GotG films, the music. James explains the way he picks songs for the soundtrack and picking them specifically for the different scenes. They also go into the process of creating Tyler Bates’ score. Tyler gets the script and actually writes the music from there, then on set while filming, the score is played

You will also get some insight on building the worlds of GotG Vol. 2, from Ego’s planet to the Sovereign planet and more.

Deleted Scenes
Deleted scenes are always a great “what could have been” moment from your favorite movies, and this is no different. We get a few very funny scenes that ended up on the editing room floor, and a few extended scenes that were just edited down in the original film.
Gag Reel
We already know the actors in GotG Vol. 2 are hilarious, and this showcases how much fun they had on set.
Guardians of the Galaxy Mission: Breakout!
This segment takes us through the creation and implementation of Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout, the new ride at Disney California Adventure. We get interviews and explanations from Disney Imagineers about the process for creating this exciting new ride.
“Guardians Inferno” Music Video
This is probably one of the wildest trips on the special features of the Bluray. It’s a music video by the Sneepers and David Hasselhoff’s of their song “Guardians Inferno”. It’s almost like a 70’s sci-fi nightmare produced by Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim with a larger budget than they’re used to. The video features most of the stars from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. and is simply magnificent. This is probably worth the cost of admission all on its own.
Scene Breakdowns
There are three scene breakdowns included with the special features: Eclector Escape, Gamora & Nebula and Rocket & The Ravagers. These features were probably some of my favorites. You’re given an inside look at creating a scene from conception to completion. These featurettes start with James Gunn’s very rough storyboard and show a comparison between the final version of the film, and all the steps in between. It’s quite amazing to see the simple drawings become animation, and then the actors acting out the scenes before the FX is added. It is amazing to me how close to the rough drawings the final product ends up. This is a nice way to see how they make the sausage so to speak.
