Website Venturebeat had the opportunity to sit down with Nintendo of America corporate communications director Charlie Scibetta to discuss how the publisher has shaped its content pipeline to better deliver consistent marquee franchises on a monthly basis to the Nintendo Switch.
During the interview, Scibetta made reference to what that pipeline will be delivering in 2018. “We’ve announced a nice lineup through this year, and next year we have some big games coming with Metroid 4,” said Scibetta. “2018 will be around Metroid, Kirby, Yoshi, [and a] new Pokémon title has been announced.”

What is so surprising about this piece of news is that many expected Metroid Prime 4 would be at least a couple years away from release. By Nintendo providing nothing but a logo, many assumed that this game was in the early stages of development.
If this does turn out to be true, Nintendo could be bringing a lineup of games in 2018 that features Pokemon, Metroid Prime 4, Fire Emblem, Kirby, Yoshi, the rumored Smash Bros Switch port, and a rumored Animal Crossing game. That would indeed be a solid lineup.
Time will tell whether this holds up. In his interview, Scibetta stated Nintendo’s motto is “surprise and delight.” Playing Metroid Prime 4 in 2018 would certainly fulfill that statement.
