Casting on Todd Phillip‘s standalone Joker film is heating up.
According to TheWrap, American Horror actress Frances Conroy in talks to play the role of Joaquin Phoenix‘s overbearing mother. The film is a mid-budget crime thriller costing around $55 million and is set in the 1980’s, not unlike the upcoming Wonder Woman sequel.
Recently Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2) was also in talks to join the comic book film, who is said to be playing a single mother that Phoenix gets involved with before he becomes the Joker.
Oscar-Winner Robert De Niro has also been confirmed to play a talk show host in the film.
The Joker will appear in theaters everywhere October 4th, 2019
