Another adventure is coming for Lara Croft, as a sequel to last year’s ‘Tomb Raider’ now has a director and a release date. Ben Wheatley will helm the film, with a March 19, 2021 slot.
Alicia Vikander (‘Ex Machina,’ ‘The Danish Girl’) will return in the starring role of Lara Croft, the tomb raider herself.
The director choice comes as no surprise, since Vikander handpicked Amy Jump to write the screenplay for the sequel. Jump is a frequent collaborator with writer-director Wheatley, with a total of five films. They comprise of ‘Kill List,’ ‘Sightseers,’ ‘A Field in England,’ ‘High-Rise,’ and ‘Free Fire.’ Next, Wheatley has the upcoming Netflix remake ‘Rebecca,’ which is now in post-production.
Further, filming will begin early 2020, while the location has not been announced yet.
‘Tomb Raider 2’ is currently the only movie releasing on March 19, 2021.
