Overview

Amazon is removing the celebrity voices of Samuel L. Jackson, Shaquille O’Neal, and Melissa McCarthy from the Alexa skill library. The $5 skills offered weather updates, jokes, and local information. Customers who purchased the celebrity voices can use them until June 7 for Jackson and September 30 for McCarthy and O’Neal. Amazon hasn’t given a reason for the removal, but reports of significant revenue losses in the voice assistant market and Amazon’s layoffs this year may have contributed to the decision. Refunds are available through customer service.
