The lovely Amber Heard has been confirmed as your new Queen of Atlantis: Mera. Heard made the casting news official to Entertainment Tonight after she had been rumored for the role for the past several months. Starring in films such as Never Back Down and Zombie Land no one has ever confused Heard as an academy award winning actress. However recently the 30 year old actress added a more depth driven role in last year’s Academy Award nominated film the Danish Girl as Ulla, so the promise is there for Heard’s version of Mera to hopefully be a strong female character rather than a token Queen. The fact that DC is choosing to introduce Mera in a Justice League film, and not in Aquaman has to begin the speculation that perhaps the film may revolve around some type of Atlantis War storyline like we saw in the comics a few years ago. Personally I think beginning the Justice League film series with Atlantis War rather than blowing the Darkseid reveal in the first few reels, could make for an interesting debut film pitting the league up against a threat worthy of their use. Justice League Part 1 hits theaters November 17th 2017!
