Sony’s ‘Venom 2′ now has Naomie Harris in talks to play the villainous Shriek, the sonic-powered accomplice and romantic interest of serial killer Cletus Kasady, aka Carnage.
Harris recently got an Academy Award nomination for her performance in Barry Jenkins’ ‘Moonlight,’ which also won Best Picture. She will be reuniting with filmmaker Andy Serkis on this film, as she voiced Nisha in ‘Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle.’ Next, she will appear in Cary Fukunaga’s ‘No Time to Die,’ releasing April 8, 2020, and HBO/Sky’s ‘The Third Day,’ premiering sometime next year.
Meanwhile, Tom Hardy (‘The Revenant,’ ‘Dunkirk’) will reprise his roles of both Eddie Brock and the titular character Venom. Michelle Williams (‘Manchester by the Sea,’ ‘Fosse/Verdon’) and Woody Harrelson (‘True Detective,’ ‘The Highwaymen’) are both coming back as well, for Anne Weying and Cletus Kasady/Carnage respectively.
Moreover, Andy Serkis (‘Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle,’ ‘Breathe’) will be directing this time around, replacing Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer. The screenplay is from returning screenwriter Kelly Marcel (‘Saving Mr. Banks,’ ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’).
The crew comprises of both returning (bold) and new members:
- Cinematographer Robert Richardson (‘The Hateful Eight,’ ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’)
- Costume designer Joanna Eatwell (‘Taboo,’ ‘Carnival Row’)
- Production designer Oliver Scholl (‘Suicide Squad,’ ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’)
- Second unit director Brian Smrz (‘The Predator,’ ‘Dark Phoenix’)
- Supervising art director Tom Brown (‘The Expendables 3,’ ‘Tomb Raider’)
- Visual effects supervisor Sheena Duggal (‘The Hunger Games,’ ‘Agent Carter’)
Further, filming will begin November 25th, and wrap February, in Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, England.
‘Venom 2’ is looking to release on October 2, 2020.
