What was your first Cosplay Experience?
My first real (and by real I mean not dressing up as Sailor Moon when I was 6 for Halloween) was at Anime Weekend Atlanta 2007 when I cosplayed as Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy VII. It was a lot of fun but I didn’t get super into the hobby until 5 years later when I began teaching myself how to sew and making my own costumes.
How long have you been Cosplaying?
I’ve been cosplaying all of my life, technically, but I just got really into it in the past 5 years.
Who or What inspired you to take up Cosplaying?
Just being an avid anime lover since the age of 5 and growing up around my video game loving brother and my dad who is a huge Marvel fan was enough to get me interested in dressing up as my favorite characters at a young age. However, what inspired me to really cosplay and make my own costumes was when my boyfriend showed me these Diablo III cosplays by the Spiral Cats team, and they were so perfect and beautiful that I became really inspired to try and be really accurate myself!
If you had to pick a favorite Cosplay you have worn or have seen someone else wear, what would it be?
There are so many amazing cosplays that I have seen other people wear that it would be impossible for me to pick a favorite, so I’ll just say that my favorite costume that I’ve made would be Celestia Ludenberg from Danganronpa. The wig is something I am very proud of and lots of research went into the full costume before I actually made it, and it turned out really well for my skill level at the time.
If you had unlimited funds and resources, what Cosplay would you create?
Either Monster Hunter armor or Hajime’s Gatchaman from Gatchaman Crowds.
What advice would you offer others who are aspiring Cosplayers?
Don’t ever compare yourself to others. Cosplay because it is fun and you enjoy it! It doesn’t matter if you buy or make your costumes, as long as you are enjoying yourself then that is all that matters.
