What was your first Cosplay Experience?
I first discovered cosplay while I was looking for local upcoming events. I decided, with no previous sewing experience, I was going to make my own costume for my first convention. I did Stocking’s angel form from Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. I didn’t know how to attach a zipper at that point but I was so determined to go and wear it that I sewed myself into the dress the morning of the convention.
How long have you been Cosplaying?
I have been cosplaying since November 2011, so three years now.
Who or What inspired you to take up Cosplaying?
I saw so many photos online of other cosplayers bringing my favorite characters to life and I couldn’t help but want to be a part of something so beautiful.
If you had to pick a favorite Cosplay you have worn or have seen someone else wear, what would it be?
Kirin Hunter from the Monster Hunter series. Monster Hunter is my favorite game and I wanted to cosplay from it the moment I discovered what cosplay was. The designs are very intricate, so it took me some time before I was confident enough to take on the challenge. I wear it to almost every convention I go to and I love how it draws in other people who play the game because I get to talk to people who share my obsession.
If you had unlimited funds and resources, what Cosplay would you create?
Escadora (Alatreon) Armor from Monster Hunter. It’s such a fun and challenging fight in the game! Alatreon is a really regal and powerful monster in the game and I would just feel like a warrior princess in that armor set.
What advice would you offer others who are aspiring Cosplayers?
Never give up! You’ll make mistakes, it happens. But if you push through it you will be that much more proud of yourself for what you’ve accomplished.
