Yesterday, Variety released a list of young up and coming actors Lionsgate along with Saban Entertainment are looking at for 2017’s upcoming Power Rangers reboot. The core team includes Jason (Red Ranger), Kimberly (Pink Ranger), Zack (Black Ranger), Billy (Blue Ranger) and Trini (Yellow Ranger).
First they say that Daniel Zovatto (It Follows), Ross Butler and Rapper Brain ‘Sene’ Marc are up for Zack. In the past the Black Ranger has typically been depicted as an African-American. Here all three are completely different ethnically but that isn’t really a bad thing.
Next, it was revealed K.J Apa (Shortland Street), Mitchell Hope (Decedents) and heartthrob Austin Butler (Arrow) are being looked at for Jason the Red Ranger.
Lastly, Naomi Scott (Terra Nova) and unknown Stephanie Scott are being looked at Kimberly the Pink Ranger. Jeff Snider of The Wrap went onto add Soul Surfer and The Carrie Dairies actress AnnaSophia Robb is also in talks for Kimberly. They add Billy and Trini are expected to be cast by unknowns with “big name actors” cast as the films antagonists. Here’s hoping the sequel introduces bad boy Tommy the Green Ranger.
