Another Trade Report Claims Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill Are Exiting The DCU

Oct 16, 2018

There have been a growing number of trade reports claiming that Matt Reeves is looking to hire a younger actor to play Bruce Wayne in his upcoming Batman movie, expected to be the start of a new trilogy. This would, of course, mean that Ben Affleck would likely no longer play the caped crusader.

Ben Affleck is still on good terms with the studio, as Omega Underground previously reported he is expected to begin filming his sports drama The Has-Been with former Suicide Squad 2 director Gavin O’Connor later this month.

Also, recent word from trades that Henry Cavill hasn’t been able to cut a deal with the studio to make a return as Superman.

Cavill is now set to lead Netflix’s high-profile fantasy series The Witcher.

The signs have been there for a while that both are expected to be exiting the DC Cinematic Universe. Well, yet another trade report this time coming from Variety is reaffirming the claims both actors are leaving the franchise.

Following the box office disappointment of “Justice League,” Warner Bros. has been reevaluating its approach to making movies based on DC Comics characters. The studio is not moving forward with Batman and Superman movies featuring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, respectively. It is expected to recast the Dark Knight with a different actor.

While fans scramble to look to YouTube, Reddit, and equally unreliable TMZ as counter evidence to these reports over the last couple months from industry journalists (the former three don’t need stories to be vetted before publishing them). It does seem that there are enough respected outlets saying they’re both leaving.

Of course, fans will believe what they want to but this does give the impression that a portion of the Zack Snyder era is coming to a close here. Despite that Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, and Ezra Miller are likely sticking around for years to come.
