While network TV struggles to hold onto viewers, there has been a shift in the television landscape. This new dynamic has seen the emergence of new power players on the scene and these new players are reaping the rewards for the content they are providing.

If one looks at the current landscape of television, especially when it comes to awards season, there is definite shift in which shows are receiving the critical acclaim that used to go exclusively to network and cable series. Online streaming services like Amazon Prime and Netflix are seeing ever-growing gains in not only market share, but also prestige. The original programming that is being offered on these platforms continue to attract new subscribers, which mean increased profits, and Apple wants to get in on the deal.

The Wall Street Journal and Variety are both reporting that the technology giant is looking to take a step into original programming for its Apple Music subscription service. They’ve apparently hired a firm to line up producers and have already started the process of developing an unknown series from Beats creator Dr. Dre. They’ve also partnered with CBS to create a 16 episode version of Carpool Karaoke with James Corden.

While Apple insists that they are not particularly going after Amazon Prime or Netflix, it must be strange for the powerhouse to still be sitting on the sidelines while everyone else is competing in the race. The upcoming content is rumored to only be available to users of the $10 per month service.

Will Apple produce the next Stranger Things or Westworld? Let us know what you think.
