When it was reported the other day that British actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge was in talks to play a CG role in Han Solo: A Star Wars Story. We just automatically assumed she would be playing a droid.
The anthology films are expected to keep the practical effects aesthetic established with Rogue One and keeping a majority of the aliens creatures in camera. While droid characters like Alan Tudyk’s K-2SO could be done with motion-capture as it almost looked photorealistic at times.
Now, Jeff from Tracking Board is backing up our prediction during his show Meet The Movie Press. Although, Jeff’s claims that she’ll be playing the “first female droid” is way off.
We likely won’t know anything official about Phoebe’s character or what she’ll look like until Lucasfilm starts dishing on the project next year at Star Wars Celebration in London. It remains to be seen if Lucasfilm will be revealing much about Han Solo at the upcoming event in April.
I suspect that this droid could be paired up with the characters played by Emilia Clarke or Thandie Newton.
However, there are some existing female droid designs directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller could pull from. Most notable female droids from the expanded universe are humanoid droid Guri from Shadow of The Empire and imperial agent droid Scorpio from the Knights of The Old Republic video game. Other droids include TC-14 from The Phantom Menace, along with other female droids introduced in Clone Wars.
Although, if we’re talking about a criminal droid we could see Lucasfilm recycle the thief droid design from the Star Wars 1313 gameplay footage, as the game was never completed. I personally prefer this design and it could more pleasing to the eyes compared to other designs we’ve seen attributed to female droids in the Star Wars universe.
When the game was retooled as a Boba Fett adventure they attempted to pair him with a droid partner and yet another design was created.
What kind of droid should Phoebe be playing in Han Solo?
