Asia Argento Was Originally Considered For The Female Lead In ‘Blade 2’

Mar 25, 2017

Guillermo del Toro‘s Blade 2 recently celebrated its fifteen year anniversary and the director revealed a casting tidbit from the sequel via Twitter.

Revealing that Italian actress Asia Argento (daughter of famed Italian horror director Dario Argento) was originally in mind to play the female lead role of Nyssa opposite Wesley’s Blade in the film. However, Asia was cast in Vin Diesel’s xXx first making her taking on the role impossible. She would take another role in an another American horror film with George A. Romero’s Land of The Dead.

The Nyssa role would instead be given to Chilean actress Leonor Varela.

Aside from Ron Perlman who had already collaborated with del Toro on Cronos, Blade 2 also featured future stars like Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus and Rogue One’s Donnie Yen. If you haven’t already watched Blade 2, I recommend you might as well give it a shot now.
