‘Avengers’ Joss Whedon Nearing Deal To Direct ‘Batgirl’ Solo Film For Warner Bros.

Mar 30, 2017

Warner Bros is adding another member of the Batfamily to the DC Extended Universe in Batgirl, and whats even more exciting is that Avengers director Joss Whedon is closing on a deal with the studio to write, produce and direct.

Whedon work often thematically explores free will, power and feminism has given us some of the best female heroes in recent years. Most notably Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

According to Variety the project only originated in the past month. No producers are currently attached but president and chief content officer of Warner Bros. Toby Emmerich is overseeing Batgirl with Jon Berg and Geoff Johns.

This would be something of a coup for Warner Bros. as Whedon was the mastermind behind the first Avengers film as well as Avengers: Age of Ultron for Marvel Studios.

Batgirl won’t be the first time Whedon has worked with a DC Comics character. He previously wrote a treatment for a Wonder Woman movie over a decade ago.

With Batgirl joining the ranks of the DCEU and Nightwing in development, it wouldn’t surprise me if it eventually lead the two characters into the Titans movie alongside Ray Fishers Cyborg. We already know a certain Jason Todd is lurking in the shadows, maybe a whole Batfamily get-together is on the cards in the future.
