By the end of a good comic, readers are always left wanting more. But, that doesn’t always mean you’re left with an “oh my” moment. Sometimes, the entirety of the issue got the job done. In other cases, the ending hooks you, but with a different feeling than “what’s next?” With Basilisk #3, for example, I found myself asking “excuse me?”
While Cullen Bunn and Jonas Scharf spend the majority of Basilisk #3 fleshing out the supposed villains of the book, they share a little something about this new world they live in, in the course of things. Then readers meet an interesting character whose existence I question — but in the best way.
I need to learn how this new character chose his path. It seems there could be others like him, and I have to know why.
But as I mentioned, the series’ villains are where our focus lies in Basilisk #3. Readers got to know them a bit in the first two issue of the series, but this one shows how out of control this group really is. This gave Scharf a great chance to unleash some action, revving things up even more than he and Bunn already had in the first two issues.
Bunn seems to be one of the busiest names in comics right now, and he’s putting out a lot of good stuff. That said, if I was only allowed to commit to only one of his ongoing titles, it would without a shred of doubt in my mind be Basilisk.
