With the penultimate issue upon us, Collins didn’t pull any punches. Batman: White Knight Presents: Harley Quinn #5 is yet another masterful issue, making for a great lead-in to the final act. The writing and storytelling has been excellent throughout this series, but this issue takes it to the next level.

All along, Collins has taken a deeper look at familiar characters while weaving in a great crime story. However, the emotional roller coaster she takes you on in this issue is what’s truly exceptional.

Obsession and crisis of identity are at the forefront of Batman: White Knight Presents: Harley Quinn #5. It’s the driving force for not just the antagonist, but also our protagonist, as we see Harley once again grappling with her past, present and future. On one hand, we see Harley wrestling with wanting to be a good mother. But then, she doesn’t want to face those responsibilities, struggling to let go of who she once was. However it is Harley’s dedication to her children that gives us one of the most gut-wrenching moments of this series. Additionally the Starlet’s obsession throughout this issue has set the stage for what is to be expected a very explosive finale.

Batman: White Knight Presents: Harley Quinn #5 reminded us that choices — well intentioned or not — have consequences.  How these decisions will play out is anybody’s guess, but it will be fascinating to see how it all unfolds in the final issue.

(Warning: Spoilers for Batman: White Knight Presents: Harley Quinn #5 ahead.)

Expect the unexpected in Batman: White Knight Presents: Harley Quinn #5. While seeing Bruce Wayne behind bars is not new, the further glimpse into his life behind bars readers get this issue was something readers have yet to experience.  Additionally, we were introduced to another former member of the Bat Family; that completely took me off guard.

Gut-wrenching is the first term that came to mind after finishing this issue. We have seen just how much Harley loves her children, both human and four-legged. With Starlet now setting her sights on Harley, we see just how far she is willing to go to exact revenge — even if it means going after those Harley loves most.

Up until now, Harley has been able to keep her old self in check. But, after the events in Batman: White Knight Presents: Harley Quinn #5, we may see the Harley of old make a comeback.
