The final issue of Batman: White Knight Presents: Harley Quinn is here, and it did not disappoint. From the first issue, Collins has redefined the character of Harley Quinn and delivered an outstanding story. Batman: White Knight Presents: Harley Quinn #6 is filled with action, suspense, and heart — which leads to a conclusion that is both satisfying and unexpected.
Collins makes good on everything she set up throughout the previous five issues. The final showdown between Harley and the Starlet lived up to expectations, providing some of the series’ best action and suspense. Additionally, Collins was able to sprinkle in a few twists that will hopefully lead to another Black Label story arc down the line.
While Batman: White Knight Presents: Harley Quinn is a revenge story at its core, there’s so much more to it. The reveal of the Starlet and her motives was a great twist, however, it was the development of Harley that has been the true strength of this series.
From the outset of the Murphyverse, we have seen a fresh take on Batman, The Joker and Harley Quinn, breathing life into characters that could always benefit from something new. While Sean Murphy might have started Harley’s transformation, it was Collins who took the reins and set her free. No longer is Harley the psycho-obsessed sidekick. She’s become something much more: a crime fighting bad ass who finally knows who she is.
Overall, Batman: White Knight Presents: Harley Quinn was a home run of a series. Collins told both a great suspenseful crime story and changed the way we view a beloved character. Hopefully Collins will get more opportunities to write not just Harley Quinn, but other DC characters, as well.
