With the close of 2022, it is a chance to highlight the best games of 2022. Here are Jimmy Montoya’s favorite games of 2022.
#1 Elden Ring
There is not much I can say about Elden Ring that hasn’t already been said. From Software’s latest game is one of the best games you will play not only this year but in your entire life. The open world in Elden Ring is one of the most impressive open worlds I have ever experienced. Every single corner of this massive map hides secrets to discover, as well as plenty of challenges to overcome. This game requires you to master its gameplay and its many, many systems, but once you get over that initial hump, you will be in one of the best gaming experiences ever. If you haven’t played Elden Ring, I recommend you start playing it now.
#2 Xenoblade Chronicles 3
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a game that I was not looking forward to, but it’s a game that I now cannot put down. As I was making this list, I didn’t think anything could rival Elden Ring for the top spot in 2022, but Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is making me reconsider that. The gameplay is addicting, and the story in this game is just bonkers. It also helps that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has one of the best soundtracks I have heard in a while. Do not let the three on the title drive you away if you have never played a Xenoblade game before. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has its’ own separate cast of characters and story that’s accessible to newcomers. Just know you will be playing this game for a long time.
#3 Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. Borderlands is one of my favorite looter shooter franchises to ever hit the FPS market. Tiny Tina’s Wonderland is an excellent spinoff to an already excellent franchise. In this game, you get to create your own dungeons and dragons character and get to level up as you shoot your way through crazy environments. If you are looking for a fun FPS that’s not Call of Duty or Destiny, try Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. This game will keep you entertained with its fantastic weapon design and gameplay, and it will keep you entertained in one of the best borderlands stories to date. If you and your friends are looking for a new coop game, Tiny Tina’s will keep you entertained for a while and the end game will keep you chasing that sweet sweet loot for hours on end.
#4 Horizon Forbidden West
I feel like Horizon Forbidden West got robbed of attention once Elden Ring came out, but this is an open-world RPG that’s worth your time. In Forbidden West, you will find one of the most polished PS5 titles to be on the console. If you want to put your new fancy console to work, well look no further than Horizon Forbidden West. This game offers an excellent open world filled with side missions, “towers” to discover new parts of the map and great locations to visit. At times the map is filled with icons and it can be a bit overwhelming but if you look past that you will find an open world that’s just begging to be explored. Where Elden Ring’s combat is tough as nails, Horizon Forbidden West offers more fluid and fun combat. If you missed Horizon Forbidden West because you were obsessing over Elden Ring, hey I don’t blame you, but you can right that wrong by playing this game before 2022 ends.
#5 TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge
I loved going to arcades as a kid so it’s no surprise this next game makes my list. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredders Revenge is a fantastic beat ’em up game. This game’s art style, music, and presentation are just out of this world! This game is just a fun game to play and it reminds me of why I play video games. TMNT Shredders Revenge is not trying to tell a groundbreaking story or do anything that’s completely revolutionary, but TMNT brings that level of fun that’s missed in a lot of games. This is another excellent coop game and can be played with up to 6 people! That’s a lot of butt-kicking, so do yourself a favor and grab a pizza and a couple of friends and play this instant classic.
#6 The Quarry
The Quarry never leaves up to the highs that Until Dawn had, but it’s still a great time! The Quarry is the latest game from Supermassive and it’s a game that you should definitely check out. Especially now that you can find it at a discounted price. In the Quarry, you play as different camp counselors as they try to survive one more night inside their summer camp. The characters are all very likable and the soundtrack in this game is fantastic. The Quarry has plenty of spooky moments that are perfect for this upcoming fall season, so if you didn’t try it this past summer, I highly recommend you play it. Yes, the story is very predictable and I had issues with the ways some of the story beats end but that didn’t make my time any less enjoyable. The Quarry was one of the games that I was completely hooked on and I didn’t put it down until I saw its ending.
#7 Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak
Monster Hunter Rise was one of my favorite games in 2021, so I was extremely happy when Capcom announced its DLC Monster Hunter Sunbreak. Now, it feels kinda cheap to add a DLC to a “best of” list but hear me out. Monster Hunter Sunbreak feels like the perfect sequel to Monster Hunter Rise! Sunbreak has a new catalog of monsters, single-player quests, tons of new armor and weapons to craft, and a master difficulty that will keep you and your friends playing for hours! When I am not playing Monster Hunter Sunbreak, I am thinking of Monster Hunter Sunbreak. Fair warning this is a game that you can only unlock once you have beaten Monster Hunter Rise, so if you have never played Rise you have a lot of grinding to do and may hold off on getting this expansion, but once you have beaten Hunter Rank 7 in Rise, there is a very meaty DLC waiting for you. Grab a couple of buddies and let the hunt begin.
Or you can try you hand at live roulette Malaysia and see what you can do.
