In a surprising move, a spin-off based on the ‘Aladdin’ character Prince Anders is in the works for the Disney+ streaming service. Played by Billy Magnussen, the character was an original creation for Guy Ritchie’s live-action remake that released May of this year.
The film, which began with a story idea from Magnussen, will be written by Jordan Dunn and Michael Kvamme (‘The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run’), and is set up with ‘Aladdin’ producers Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich. There are no plot details as of now, and the film is unrelated to the ‘Aladdin’ sequel that is in consideration.
The announcement comes fresh off the heels of ‘Aladdin’ actor Mena Massoud’s grievances with the lack of work available for him, in spite of starring in a multi-billion dollar grossing film.
A production date has yet to be given, as this is still early development.
