Black Adam Adds Henry Winkler & Jennifer Holland; Shazam! Sequel to Feature Gal GadoT

Dec 18, 2021

There’s a lot more interconnectivity coming to the DCEU in the next few movies. In the last few days, three major casting additions to Black Adam and Shazam!: Fury of the Gods have been confirmed. Henry Winkler is joining the franchise as a well-known comic book character. Meanwhile, DCEU vets Gal Gadot and Jennifer Holland are both set to appear in upcoming movies as well.

Shazam!: Fury of the gods ‘ wonderful cameo

Gadot, known for her portrayal of Wonder Woman over the course of 5 DCEU movies, will reprise her iconic character in Shazam!: Fury of the Gods, The Illuminerdi has confirmed. Gadot’s appearance is said to be a cameo and there’s no info on how it’ll fit into the movie’s storyline.

Black Adam‘s new cast members

Meanwhile, the Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson-led Black Adam film is getting not one, but two cast additions. Henry Winkler, best known for his iconic portrayal of Arthur “Fonzie” Fonzarelli on ABC’s Happy Days, has joined the cast of the movie. Winkler’s involvement was first teased by The GWW’s editor-in-chief Casey Walsh on Twitter. One Take News later confirmed that the Barry star will portray the character of Al Pratt in the film.

For those who aren’t familiar with the character, Al Pratt is a member of the Justice Society of America. He’s the first character to use the Atom moniker and is Al Rothstein aka Atom Smasher’s godfather. Atom Smasher will appear in a major role in the movie, portrayed by The Fosters‘ Noah Centineo. One Take News also confirmed that Winkler’s role in the film is a small cameo. According to their sources, he appears in a scene where his godson FaceTimes him and they talk about the JSA, and the Atom Smasher suit.

Meanwhile, Cinema Reviewed has confirmed another addition to the cast of Black Adam: The Suicide Squad‘s Jennifer Holland. The Peacemaker star will reprise her Emilia Harcourt role. Harcourt debuted in The Suicide Squad and is an ARGUS agent who assists Task Force X in their mission. She will appear next on HBO Max’s Peacemaker in one of the leading roles. While Cinema Reviewed’s original post only confirmed that her Peacemaker appearance will set up Black Adam, Casey Walsh confirmed in his tweets that Amanda Waller’s team will capture Black Adam at some point during the movie. Walsh also added that it won’t happen at the end of the movie, and will instead be a situation that will be dealt with in Black Adam.

What does it all mean

All those appearances set up interesting possibilities for the future of the DCEU. Harcourt’s inclusion in Black Adam could set up a crossover between the former and The Suicide Squad franchise. Meanwhile, Gadot’s Shazam cameo will most likely show us a little bit about Wonder Woman’s life in the DCEU, post-Justice League, which is something we haven’t seen so far. I’m really looking forward to seeing more connections between the DCEU movies and TV shows, so this is all very exciting to me.

Black Adam will premiere on July 29, 2022, while Shazam!: Fury of the Gods will come out on June 2, 2023.
