‘Black Widow’ Ironically Lands ‘Red Sparrow’ Production Designer – Shoots In 2019?

May 23, 2018

It was finally confirmed that Marvel Studios is indeed moving forward with a solo Black Widow movie starting Scarlett Johansson.

Marvel had tasked screenwriter Jac Schaeffer to pen a script.

Omega Underground has now learned they’ve hired an interesting production designer. Maria Djurkovic will now design the Marvel spy flick. Her credits include Red Sparrow, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Intimation Game, and The Snowman.

Ironically, people kept saying how much Red Sparrow at face value is a lot like Black Widow. So, sharing the same production designer is slightly assuming. But if you’ve seen Red Sparrow, the comparisons are very minor and the two characters/stories couldn’t be more different from each other.

There were some plot points rumored by ThatHashtagShow that could see Nat before her days in SHIELD being hunted by the Russian government with ties to the Widow program, along with a tease that Sebastian Stan‘s Winter Soldier could be involved. However, we’ve seen leaked plot details early in development lead to rewrites, so while these are likely legit the project could change over the next year.

Widow landing a production designer this early suggests it’s working towards a 2019 shoot and could start filming after Guardians 3, as the studio is currently courting a huge volume of female directors.

We are now expecting a director announcement soon.

As we’ve reported, Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.3 is eyeing a production start in Atlanta this February. The Eternals is also in development with recently hired screenwriters.

Our assumption is that they’ll go for a European shoot as places such as Prague and Budapest are becoming major studio hotspots, the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel will be shooting scenes in Prague over the summer/fall.

The official release schedule goes Ant-Man and The Wasp in July then next year we get Captain Marvel, Avengers 4, and Spider-Man 2.

Marvel has yet to give this a release date but it’s starting to look like it’ll land one of the three 2020 spots (May, July, November).
