It was recently announced that Neill Blomkamp‘s next film Greenland, would star Captain America actor Chris Evans. The film written by Chris Sparling will focus on a father named Jeff [Evans] trying to get his family to the safest spot in the world which is Greenland, due to an unknown threat.
We have some production updates and possible crew tidbits to share.
Omega Underground has learned Greenland is eyeing an October start with locations such as Toronto and New York City. There’s also an excellent chance that some of the filming and post-production will take place at Blomkamp’s Oats Studios facility in Vancouver.
We’re also hearing that fellow Canadians such as Skyfall/Blade Runner 2049 production designer Dennis Gassner and Avengers: Infinity War cinematographer Trent Opaloch could be part of the production team.
When it comes to Gassner, we reached out to Blomkamp for comment but he didn’t respond to our request. Dennis is also expected to be working on Danny Boyle’s Bond 25, which could make things a little tricky as well which is why we are being cautious about his participation as it begins filming in early December.
There’s more of an assumption concerning Trent because he’s worked with Neill on District 9, Elysium, and Chappie. He also has a history working on a bunch of Chris Evans films at Marvel Studios with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers 4.
Reshoots on Avengers 4 are expected to be completed by September 1st and that could give Trent a little wiggle room to be part of Greenland.
Once we get production dates for Greenland we will certainly update, the film is currently without a release date.
