While speaking with THR, Disney’s Bob Iger alluded that they expected Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige to oversee all the X-Men films when the merger is finalized.
This could suggest that people like Simon Kinberg and other current X-Men producers might be phased out for Kevin’s growing producing team at Marvel instead, along with Ryan Reynolds’ creative control over Deadpool being thrown out the window.
How is Marvel going to absorb Fox’s X-Men franchise? Is Kevin Feige going to oversee everything?
I think it only makes sense. I want to be careful here because of what’s been communicated to the Fox folks, but I think they know. It only makes sense for Marvel to be supervised by one entity. There shouldn’t be two Marvels.
It’s not entirely clarified if that indeed means that Marvel Studios/Disney will be distributing R-rated Deadpool movies in the future. I was sort of under the impression the R-rated projects could be made by Marvel Studios but distributed by Disney’s 20th Century Fox instead.
Once the deal is done by next summer, there will likely be more public statements from Iger and Feige on the future of the X-Men at Marvel Studios, also what those first couple of films could look like as well.
Kevin had been keeping mum about what Phase Four lineup would be and this now allows them to insert an X-Men or Fantastic Four reboots sooner than they would have if they had already announced their lineup plans.
