In an interview with Variety at the BAFTA Tea Party, “’Incredibles 2′ director Brad Bird gave some insight into his next feature film.
Without giving too much away, Bird announced he would be making his very first musical. On the concept of making a musical, Bird had this to say:
“I don’t know anything about musicals, so I figure I should do this because I’m deathly afraid of it and that sounds like a cool thing.”
Bird then went on to say that the film will include about 20 minutes of animation. This makes it a live-action hybrid in the vein of ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit.’ A more recent example would be ‘Mary Poppins Returns.’
Finally, Bird was able to confirm his regular composer Michael Giacchino will providing the music for this film. This will mark the sixth collaboration between the two. (Hopefully this will be worth the wait until the inevitable ‘Incredibles 3.’) No other details were given on the project.
