HollywoodReporter has learned that comic book writer Brian K. Vaughn is writing a script for Fox that focuses on Marvel cosmic character Silver Surfer.
Fox has several other “secret” projects in development, including a Silver Surfer stand-alone feature that is being written by comics creator Brian K. Vaughn. “We are going 100 miles per hour,” says one executive involved.
Maybe third time the charm?
Guardians of The Galaxy’s James Gunn actually wrote a treatment for a Fox Surfer solo movie years ago before the Alex Proyas incarnation collapsed. There was talk Gunn was keen on trying to get Silver Surfer and Galactus into the first Guardians film.
It’s unknown what director will actually take on the budding cosmic project.
Other projects currently in the works include a Doctor Doom movie from Noah Hawley, James Mangold is writing a Logan spinoff focusing on Laura/X-23, Drew Goddard’s X-Force and Channing Tatum’s Gambit which are likely going into production this year, along with Deadpool 3 and a Kitty Pryde movie from Brian Michael Bendis and Tim Miller on the horizon as well.
It remains to be seen if the Disney merger will even affect these Fox projects as it seems that if it were, the studio would tend to slow down on burning cash and resources on development. Bendis revealed that the merger won’t be affecting his Kitty film. Again, at the moment it only fans speculation that any of the Fox Marvel projects will get shelved after the merger.
“It does not affect this project in any way, shape or form is what I was told,” says Bendis of the looming merger. “At least at the moment, it’s certainly decisions over my pay-grade if it ends up doing so.”
