Candyman’s Nia DaCosta To Direct Captain Marvel 2 For Marvel Studios

Aug 6, 2020

According to Deadline, Nia DaCosta, who recently directed the upcoming horror reboot of ‘Candyman’ has been hired to direct the sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel. DaCosta will be replacing the past directors, Anna Bodn and Ryan Fleck, whom held the first. Marvel Studios in the past has brought new directors in to direct sequels replacing the old ones. Such as Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which brought in the famed Russo brothers replacing Joe Johnston.

Megan McDonnel, an editor on the upcoming Marvel series ‘WandaVision’ is set to write the script. The Academy Award winning actress, Brie Larson will return to reprise her role from the first film and Avengers: Endgame. I am glad to see Marvel and comic book films in general become more diverse with their characters and directors. Especially with Chloe Zhao, who’s directing Eternals and Cathy Yan of DC’s recent film Birds of Prey.

‘Captain Marvel 2’ is set to release in theaters July 8, 2022 and is produced by Marvel Studios.
