Dark Horse Comics with their mysterious Project Black Sky imprint has been producing some of the best pulp action in comics today. Captain Midnight #10 is no exception. Cap must confront his past to save the future from his former partner. Joshua Williamson provides some clever twists in this familiar but exciting tale that comes to a head in the final pages. Fernando Dagnino’s pencils and Javier Mena’s colors bring the action to life especially in the flashback sequences. You can almost feel the warmth of the sun escape the page onto your skin. It can be very lush in places and darker where it has to be.

Along with Blackout and Skyman, Captain Midnight is an old fashioned cape and cowl adventure series that harkens back to the Silver Age of comics but with a more modern appeal. It is a breath of fresh air in an industry that caters to huge mainstream crossovers to push low-selling books. Dark Horse just has some fun exciting stories to tell and Captain Midnight is one of the best.
