Chris Pirri’s Top 30 Horror Movies: #12 Pet Sematary (1989)

Oct 26, 2015

It’s October and that means Halloween is almost here. In honor of my favorite holiday of the year I give to you my top thirty horror movies. Now some of these films might be on every list, but some might not. I might even have a film or two that you have never heard of. Just remember this is my top thirty. In other words these films made me cringe or just sent chills up my spine. So with no further ado here is my list.

# 12
Pet Sematary (1989)
Directed by: Mary Lambert

This is one of my favorite novels by the master of horror. Stephen King’s Pet Sematary translates very well from novel to the big screen. It is a dark tale with a very disturbing and eerie feel to it. This is the second movie taken from a Stephen King book that is in my top thirty and that’s no coincidence.

The Creed family moves into a new home on a busy Interstate Highway in all places Maine. Yes another story that takes place in Stephen King’s home state. When the family cat is ran over while wondering onto the highway the Creed’s learn about a special cemetery that is located behind their house from their neighbor. This special cemetery can bring the dead back to life.

The family buries the cat in the mysterious pet cemetery only to find a few days later the feline is back in the lives of the Creed’s, but he is not the same lovable, adorable pet.

Then things take a drastic turn for the worse when the Creed’s young son (Gage) is plowed over by a big rig on the same highway as the cat. Looks like Louis Creed will be visiting the cemetery once again. Will it work with a human being? Knowing Stephen King I would say yes but not in the way you would expect. petsem5
Stephen King’s mind is just a glorious wicked place to be. He can take even a fairy tale and make you scream with delight. So beware of your town’s pet cemetery you never know what evil may be lurking in those graves.
