Chris Pirri’s Top 30 Horror Movies: #28 The Fly

Oct 4, 2015

Its October and that means Halloween is almost here. In honor of my favorite holiday of the year I give to you my top thirty horror movies. Now some of these films might be on every list, but some might not. I might even have a film or two that you have never heard of. Just remember this is my top thirty. In other words these films made me cringe or just sent chills up my spine. So with no further ado here is my list.

# 28
The Fly (1986)
Directed by: David Cronenberg

This movie could be classified under a lot of genres. My interpretation is a science fiction movie with a tragic love story and just the right amount of horror. The horror in this movie is of course watching Seth played by Jeff Goldblum slowly turn into a fly. The make-up is some of the best you will see from a mid-eighties film. I know I’m not the only one to agree. Both Chris Walas and Stephen Dupuis won an Academy Award for best make-up that year.

When the transformation is happening we get some images that will always stick in your head. Two immediately come to mind. One is when Seth starts to lose his fingernails. Watching them fall off while he is picking at them is just plain disgusting. The other scene takes place while he is eating. He vomits on his food so it will dissolve easier and he can slop it back up. This is one great and classic horror film. If you have not seen it go get it, and if you have seen it, go enjoy it again. This is David Cronenberg at his best.
