What was your first Cosplay experience?
My first cosplay experience was searching a Japan forum for where to buy “Bento Boxes” (Japanese lunch boxes) in Norway, when I was advised to go to this gathering for costume enthusiasts. I knew nobody of the people that were going, but internet said this could be fun. So I made a closet costume and when I got there I was in awe. All these amazing people dressing up as everything I love. And then I saw him… the perfect armor! Halo ODST! As a huge Halo fan I was on cloud nine being able to talk to someone who obviously loved the game as much as me and he had made a Mjolnir armor. And I got to borrow his helmet.

So looking back I went alone to a strange convention and ended up meeting several of my best friends for the first time (including the guy in the Halo suit).

How long have you been Cosplaying?
I have been cosplaying since summer 2011 and have no plans to stop. I currently live and breathe this, never a dull moment again.

Who or what inspired you to take up Cosplaying?
I have always loved to be creative and build stuff, and when I saw Volpin Props build the first Portal Gun I knew I had to build one too. My original plan was to just place it over my fireplace, but when I finished it there was a con a few weeks away. I thought; why not make a whole Chell cosplay? So I did. And I got so many wonderful comments and found it was way easier to talk to people when I was in costume. This was my first time cosplaying and I still have that Portal Gun.

If you had to pick a favorite Cosplay you have worn, or have seen someone else wear, what would it be?
How can you ask that, it is impossible to pick only one! Of my own cosplay I think it has to be the Adjutant from SC2, because it changes me completely and I learned so much. Out of cosplays I have seen on someone else I am completely mind blown at how Mitternacht Cosplay and Rake Makes pulled off a Siam Cosplay from Silent Hill. That is determination and it looks so fascinating.

If you had unlimited funds and resources, what Cosplay would you create?
I really want to make a pair of Hunters (Mgalekgolo) from Halo 3 together with my sister. They are huge and complex and I don’t think I have a change of building it now. I also want to make Kerrigan as the Queen of Blades, that will also take a lot of resources.

What advice would you offer to those who are aspiring Cosplayers?

I started this knowing nobody and not even knowing how to sew or what “worbla” is. But I started talking to the ones I thought looked the most amazing at cons and they taught me a lot and suddenly became my best friends. My advice is talk to people, because the people in the cosplay environment are the most open, friendly and creative I have met and they would love to share everything they know. You don’t have to figure out “how to cosplay” on your own, as a community this is way more fun.
