CinemaCon 17: STX Films Panel

Mar 29, 2017

A newcomer to the film studio game STX Studios has in its own words started hitting the market with films at a breakneck pace with a relentless film schedule for the next two years. Garnering big names for their 2017 slate with casts including Tom Hanks, Emma Watson, Jackie Chan and Mark Whalberg.

Starting this year’s releases with footage and a new trailer from The Circle starring Tom Hanks and Emma Watson. Showing us a society where a singular corporation holds the entire world’s personal information in the palm of its hands begging us the question of whether it is morally acceptable?

Continuing on to the main course and hunk of the presentation being Luc Besson’s Valerian City of a Thousand Planets. Giving us new footage and a trailer with a gracious visit from Cara Delevingne. Based off of the quirky 1967 graphical novel Valerian chronicles the misadventures of a Spatio Temporal agent of the same name. Along with his female partner Laureline as they escapade across the galaxy. In so many ways a spiritual successor to the Fifth Element I expect nothing but hectic trippy goodness from the film.

Keeping up the momentum with J.K Simmons upcoming Renegades and Aaron Sorkin’s directorial debut with Molly’s Game starring Jessica Chastain. Based on the true life story of Poker legend Molly Bloom. STX looks to be spreading its roots far even delving into the Asia cinema market with Jackie Chan’s The Foreigner.

Mark Whalberg and Deep Water Horizon Director Peter Berg have also signed on with STX for Mile 22. Which the duo want to make into a trilogy. The studio also announced the in-production film Den of Thieves starring Oshea Jackson Jr. and Gerard Butler.

Without a doubt, STX films are definitely making a name for its self and have no doubts they will continue to thrive. Stayed tuned HERE for all updates from CinemaCon 2017.
