‘Coming to America 2’ will release on August 7, 2020, by Paramount Pictures. The film is a sequel to the 1988 comedy starring Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall. As of now, there is no official title, but it was once ‘Coming 2 America.’
Craig Brewer (‘Hustle & Flow’) is set to direct the film. Brewer and Murphy recently collaborated on Netflix’s ‘Dolemite Is My Name,’ releasing this year. Kenya Barris (‘Black-ish’) is rewriting a script by original ‘Coming to America’ writers Barry Blaustein & David Sheffield.
Murphy is excited for the project, as well as Brewer directing:
“After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that ‘Coming to America 2′ is officially moving forward,” Murphy said in a statement. “We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, … and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen.”
In the sequel, Akeem learns about a long lost son, and must return to America to meet his unlikely heir to the throne of Zamunda.
Moreover, the goal is to reassemble the original cast: Arsenio Hall, Shari Headley, John Amos, and James Earl Jones.
Further, the only competition on this date is Warner Bros.’ untitled event film.
