CONFIRMED: ‘Shazam!’ Won’t Include Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam

Jul 22, 2017

Dwayne Johnson has been attached for the Black Adam role for years now, but it looks like we’ll have to wait even longer before we’ll actually get to see him. Shazam! director David Sandberg has confirmed and producer Geoff Johns reaffirmed to Yahoo previous rumblings that Black Adam indeed won’t be appearing in the film.

“We haven’t announced any casting yet, but Dwayne isn’t going to be in this movie. He’s still doing Black Adam, but he won’t be in Shazam!”

It seems a little odd that the Shazam! villain wouldn’t be in the film, but it’s been said that Black Adam is getting his own film and it’s unknown if he’ll be in Man of Steel 2. However, Johnson spoke to MTV about the subject.

“This is a really fun, cool time for DC right now because they’re world-building and building out….So what we decided to do was to create a scenario where Black Adam is having his stand-alone movie, and Captain Marvel, Shazam, will have his stand-alone movie and then that way we’re building our world up that way, and then we can come together at some point.”

It’s expected that Warner Bros. will be making big announcements concerning the film later today.
