Former Darth Maul writer has an idea for the sith if Disney uses him in Star Wars show, movie

Dec 11, 2020

Disney took over the internet on Thursday, making a bevy of show and movie announcements. While Marvel fans received some long-awaited updates and trailers, Star Wars diehards may have gotten the greatest set of surprises on Disney Investor Day.

The famed “galaxy far, far away” will expand ever more on Disney+, with shows like Ahsoka, Rogue Squadron and The Acolyte joining the streaming service.

While Ahsoka’s show isn’t a huge surprise given Rosario Dawson’s performance in The Mandalorian and the character’s role in the final season of The Clone Wars — along with what she did in the seasons prior — the only new Star Wars show that has been long-expected is the Obi-Wan Kenobi show.

Set 10 years after Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan will see his former padawan turned-sith Darth Vader.

But, the show offers the opportunity to bring in another lightsaber-wielder. Darth Maul.

While it’d be cool to see Maul go against Ahsoka Tano again, the timeline doesn’t seem to allow that possibility. The Ewan McGregor-led show is a totally different story.

And if you’re wondering how the son of Dathomir could be woven into Obi-Wan Kenobi, writer of the 2017 Darth Maul comic book series, Cullen Bunn, offered an idea for what can be done with the sith during his appearance on Geeks WorldWide Radio’s TLDR podcast.

“I was really fascinated with the crime syndicate stuff in the show, where he built the crime syndicate,” Bunn said. “They hint at it in the Solo movie and stuff like that. I would’ve liked to play in that area a little bit.”

Bunn also added if he did more with Maul, bounty hunter Cad Bane would be “central to it in some way.”
