Dave Bautista Join’s Legendary’s ‘Dune’ Remake

Today, Variety announced that Guardians of the Galaxy and Specter star Dave Bautista has joined the upcoming remake of Dune at Legendary. This comes after Bautista openly critsized Disney for firing director James Gunn from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise due to past inappropriate tweets from the filmmaker.

Set in the distant future, “Dune” follows Paul Atreides, whose family assumes control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, jurisdiction over Arrakis is contested among competing noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship with nature, as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s reign.

Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve is set to helm the project. After the studio closed a deal for the films rights from the Frank Herbert estate in 2016. Dune mas a major influence on Geroge Lucas when he was developing Star Wars in the 1970’s.
