David Fincher Confirmed To Direct ‘World War Z’ Sequel; Shoots Early Next Year

Jun 22, 2017

Paramount had been scrambling when J.A. Bayona left World War Z 2 when the film was placed on hold to adjust. Bayona would instead make Jurassic World 2.

So, it was a massive surprise to all of us when Brad Pitt personally courted David Fincher as the film’s next potential director.

Well, Variety is reporting that Fincher has closed his deal to shoot the film which we hope means he’ll have creative control and final cut on the film. They also mention filming is expected to begin Winter-Spring of next year.

They also mention filming is expected to begin winter or spring of next year.

Fincher notoriously had been thrown under the bus on his first feature film Alien 3, when producers and the studio micromanaged him throughout the entire shoot. Only to blame him for its box office failings. David seemed completely against this level of filmmaker since and we suspect that Paramount likely has given him all the control he wanted over the film.

It’s currently without a release date but we suspect a release in Summer 2019 as the original date was set for the summer.
