David Leitch Teases Pairing Theron and Keanu In Other Films; Atomic and Wick Crossover Unlikely

Jul 25, 2017

Despite a thirty year timeline difference between Atomic Blonde (set in the 1980s) and John Wick (set in the 2010s), people have been speculating on a crossover film that would include Keanu Reeves and Charlize Theron as their action characters. Seriously, this won’t happen because of common sense logic.

However, this didn’t stop ScreenRant from asking Atomic Blonde director and John Wick producer David Leitch about it which invoked laughter from the director. He confirms the timeline issue rules out any real crossover between the two characters but hints that another project could come along for them to be paired up.

“(Laugh) It would be great! I get this question once in a while, and I think it’s just more their time period lines. I would absolutely do it. Maybe there’s a time we see versions, or there’s uh, you know, the other real fantasy is that maybe there’s a project with both, that a new idea. You know, that Charlize and Keanu could…, a story that we could have with the same action space and we can see them either partner up or go toe to toe.”

My assumption is that Chad’s Highlander reboot makes a lot of sense, but nothing says that’ll happen with Theron and Reeves. Also, nothing says they can’t appear in each other’s sequels as nothing has suggested Atomic and Wick are set in the same cinematic universe as they’re at different studios.

John Wick 3 is currently expected to begin filming at the end of the year or early next year and Leitch is deep into production on Deadpool 2.

Atomic Blonde opens this weekend.
