Warner Bros. and Legendary have pushed their ‘Dune’ reboot to December 18, 2020, out of November 20, 2020. So, what’s the reason? Well, there is no known one at the moment, but it could be a ploy to replicate the success of James Wan’s ‘Aquaman,’ which held the same date last year.
Moreover, the cast and their roles:
- Timothee Chalamet (‘Call Me by Your Name,’ ‘Beautiful Boy’) as Paul Atreides
- Oscar Isaac (‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi,’ ‘Triple Frontier’) as Duke Leto Atreides
- Rebecca Ferguson (‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout,’ ‘Men in Black: International’) as Lady Jessica Atreides
- Stellan Skarsgård (‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,’ ‘Chernobyl’) as Baron Harkonnen
- Dave Bautista (‘Avengers: Endgame,’ ‘Stuber’) as Glossu ‘Beast’ Rabban
- Charlotte Rampling (‘Assassin’s Creed,’ ‘Red Sparrow’) as Reverend Mother Mohiam
- David Dastmalchian (‘Ant-Man and the Wasp,’ ‘Bird Box’) as Piter De Vries
- Jason Momoa (‘Frontier,’ ‘Aquaman’) as Duncan Idaho
- Josh Brolin (‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ ‘Sicario: Day of the Soldado’) as Gurney Halleck
- Javier Bardem (‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,’ ‘Mother!’) as Stilgar
- Chang Chen (‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,’ ‘The Assassin’) as Dr. Yueh
- Zendaya (‘Euphoria,’ ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’) as Chani
Also, Stephen Henderson (‘Fences,’ ‘‘Lady Bird’) is cast in an unknown role.
Further, the premise is below:
“A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, ‘Dune’ tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. So, as malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.”
Additionally, here are several of the crew members:
- Cinematographer Greig Fraser (‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,’ “Vice’)
- Composer Hans Zimmer (‘Blade Runner 2049,’ ‘Dunkirk’)
- Costume designer Jacqueline West (‘Argo,’ ‘The Revenant’)
- Co-costume designer Bob Morgan (‘Inception,’ ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’)
- Stunt coordinator Tom Struthers (‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy, ‘Dunkirk’)
- Production designer Patrice Vermette (‘Sicario,’ ‘Arrival’)
- Editor Joe Walker (‘Blade Runner 2049,’ ‘Widows’)
- Visual effects supervisor Paul Lambert (‘Blade Runner 2049,’ ‘First Man’)
- Special effects supervisor Gerd Nefzer (‘Blade Runner 2049,’ ‘Red Sparrow’)
Meanwhile, Denis Villeneuve (‘Arrival,’ ‘Blade Runner 2049’) serves as director, on both this film and the sequel. The screenplay is by Villeneuve, Eric Roth (‘Forrest Gump,’ ‘A Star is Born’) and Jon Spaihts (‘Prometheus,’ ‘Doctor Strange’).
Lastly, the film is currently in post-production. However, there is the lingering question of when the sequel will land, date-wise. Perhaps December 15, 2023?
‘Dune’ will now be up against Craig Brewer’s ‘Coming to America 2,’ Dan Trachtenberg’s ‘Uncharted,’ and Steven Spielberg’s ‘West Side Story,’
