Director Joss Whedon and Marvel Studios Have Parted Ways Entirely

Jan 4, 2016

Joss Whedon for a time seemed to be Marvel’s golden child. He was allowed to dabble in almost all of the Phase II films after his massive success in the original Avengers film. After suggesting and script editing the Phase II films he set all his attention on Avengers: Age of Ultron. After which he announced he would not be returning for the announced Avengers: Infinity War 2-part saga. Many were upset by this but were happy Captain America: The Winter Solider directing duo The Russo Brothers were taking over at least.

Now while speaking at an Oxford Union Q&A the former Avengers director has announced he has split from Marvel Studios entirely and will not stay on as a consultant either:

No. You know I was their sort of conciliatory for a while… We do not discuss our thing… [audience laughter] But, I sort of had my finger in all of the films in the second phase, but then I just had to concentrate only on Ultron, and sort of know when it was done I was just going to stop. So I made a completely clean break – not because we had a falling out – just because I was like, “I can’t…” If I was still there going, “Well, here are my thoughts on this film,” I’d be there every day. I wouldn’t do anything else because there are a lot of films, and it is a lot of fun. It’s very seductive. When you can put your little fairy dust on things and just improve them slighty, and they actually listen to you… I was a script doctor for a long time, and the part where they listen to you was very rare; so it was very important for my own self to go “we can still be friends,” but…

It will be unfortunate to see him not at least write a future Marvel film but he seemed to be completely burned out after Age of Ultron. He even quit Twitter all together after the release of the film…
