According to That Hashtag Show, the live-action feature film adaptation of ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ is rumbling to life again. Screenwriter Michael Gilio (‘Kwik Stop,’ ‘Jolene’) recently gave Paramount a new draft of the script, and the studio is “absolutely buzzing.”
Meanwhile, director Chris McKay (‘The Lego Batman Movie,’ ‘Nightwing’) is no longer part of the project. However, Paramount will restart the director search once Gilio returns with a script following the studio’s recent notes.
Here is the wishlist for the male lead role, with the frontrunner in bold:
- Dave Bautista (‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ ‘Blade Runner 2049’)
- Josh Brolin (‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ ‘Sicario: Day of the Soldado’)
- Vin Diesel (‘Fast & Furious,’ ‘The Last Witch Hunter’)
- Johnny Depp (‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’)
- Joel Edgerton (‘Red Sparrow,’ ‘Boy Erased’)
- Jamie Foxx (‘Baby Driver,’ ‘Robin Hood’)
- Matthew McConaughey (‘White Boy Rick,’ ‘Serenity’)
- Chris Pratt (‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,’ ‘The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part’)
- Jeremy Renner (‘Wind River,’ ‘Tag’)
- Will Smith (‘Suicide Squad,’ ‘Bright’)
Further, the studio is aiming for a late-summer or early-fall production start.
The film has a release date of November 19, 2021.
