Dwayne Johnson Confirms Our Report That ‘Hobbs and Shaw’ Starts Filming In September

May 15, 2018

Back in April, we reported that Fast and Furious spinoff titled Hobbs and Shaw would begin filming on September 4th. Well, star Dwayne Johnson has confirmed via Instagram that the title is indeed Hobbs and Shaw, but also that filming will begin in September confirming the April report.

HOBBS & SHAW. Lotta fun w/ my brothas @jasonstatham & director, @davidmleitch in our production meeting. Scroll left and see what happens when I whisper under my breath, “Smile for the camera you bald Harry Potter bitch!” And he says – Yeah clearly that extra small shirt is cutting off your brain circulation you big asshole. All while our phenomenal director keeps his poker face knowing he’s gonna have the time of his life directing our film. Been wanting to work with David for years now. Very talented and knows how to create and shoot bad ass, cool and FUN characters. He directed JOHN WICK, ATOMIC BLONDE and next week his new movie, DEADPOOL 2 looks to be huge with audiences worldwide. We have a lot of fun surprises in store with our movie and what an opportunity for us to smartly build out our beloved Fast and Furious franchise with our spinoff. We’re pumped to shoot and most importantly, THANK YOU FANS for all the love, support and excitement. Shooting starts this September! #HobbsAndShaw #DavidLeitch #ChrisMorgan #NealMoritz #HiramGarcia #SevenBucksProds #UniversalStudios

Before it was confirmed that Deadpool 2 and Atomic Blonde director David Leitch would be officially making the movie, Omega Underground revealed that Letich’s production designer David Scheunemann (Mute, Inglourious Basterds) would be joining Hobbs and Shaw, all but confirming David ahead of the studio announcement.

As we first reported filming is expected to be taking place in Hawaii, Atlanta, and the United Kingdom.

Jason Statham is also set to co-star which could place his involvement with Expendables 4 into question (starts filming this August in Bulgaria) and there is still an assumption that Charlize Theron‘s Cipher will be in the spinoff as well (but not confirmed).

Universal recently moved the release date to August 2nd, 2019.
