It was previously announced that Matthew Vaughn‘s Marv Films would be producing alongside Paramount Pictures on the Elton John musical Rocketman, focusing on his transformation from a young/shy Reginald Dwight to his stage persona as rock star Elton John.
Actor turned director Dexter Fletcher will helm with a script from Lee Hall. Dexter had recently replaced Bryan Singer on the Queen film Bohemian Rhapsody.
Taron Egerton is set to play Elton John, while Variety reports that Jamie Bell is in talks to play Elton’s musical partner Bernie Taupin. John and Taupin collaborated on over thirty albums and their relationship dates back to the sixties.
Elton recently made a surprise cameo in Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle as himself and will produce Rocketman.

Omega Underground has learned that filming will be taking place at Bray Studios in Berkshire, England and is set begin rolling on August 2nd with an expected wrap on October 24th.

Paramount has set the release date for May 17th, 2019.
