Even thought Darkseid War is entering its final act there maybe no better time to jump into this awesomely epic story than right now with Justice League: The Darkseid War Special #1. Even though this issue is all set up and exposition, Geoff Johns and team present it with the same ferocity and cinematic prowess as the main event. If you aren’t reading The Darkseid War you now have literally no excuse as this special issue gives us enough background, plot points, and evil origins to fill you in and get you primed for the end of The Darkseid War event.
Geoff Johns expertly uses this Darkseid War special to catch up readers on the massive event and all the goings on that has been the Darkseid War. He also gives us the origin of our newest villainous Grail, while setting up the future of Jessica’s role as Power Ring. Its a jam packed issue that does everything right to get you psyched for the finale of the Darkseid War and the future of DC comics.
This issue feels genetically designed to take my money, especially with the all-star artistic styelings of Ivan Reis, Joe Prado, Oscar Jimenez, Paul Pelletier & Tony Kordos. This book is almost impossible not to love as these artists come together to give us what is seemingly three flawlessly beautiful and well told stories. The multiple artists work seamlessly together creating a comic in which the art style changes are subtle, beautiful, and only enhance the story they are telling.
The Darkseid War continues to make its Omega Mark as one of the great DC events. Geoff Johns and crew are marking their last New 52 stand and its a wonderfully entertaining epic that every comic fan should be reading. Justice League: The Darkseid War Special #1 is the ultimate tie in comic and everything fans of the event have been asking for.
